Birthday Week Bonanza: Read This
My 18th birthday was one for the books. But in order to really appreciate this story, you have to know something about me…
My love for the University of Florida runs deep. I come from a long line of Gators dating back to the 1930s.
Here I am with Albert the Gator at the UF Bookstore! Full disclosure… this is not from my 18th birthday. We didn’t have digital cameras back then, OK?!
From the moment I stepped on campus for journalism camp in 1997—or as the kids say today, the late 1900s 😳—I was in heaven.
UF was everything I dreamed of and more.
Thankfully, I got accepted to UF for the Summer 1999 term.
It just so happened that freshman orientation overlapped with my 18th birthday, and I couldn’t think of a better way to spend part of my birthday week.
I got to explore the campus that would be my home for the next 4 years (well, actually 11, but I didn’t know at the time I was going to work there after graduation).
I picked my first college classes.
I spent all of my birthday money on Gator gear at the UF Bookstore.
I was getting a preview of what my new life was going to be like.
Wouldn’t it be great if we could get a preview of what our next step in our career might look like?
