How to Overcome Rejection
Rejection is a common feeling, especially among job seekers. If you’ve been applying to jobs recently, you’ve likely experienced several noes from companies.
The thing about being rejected multiple times is it can really damage your self-confidence. And, it can definitely cause you to speculate about why you were rejected. When you get a no from a company—or worse, are ghosted—you don’t know why. And even if you ask why, you’re rarely going to get a (truthful) answer.
It’s easy for others to say, “Don’t take rejection personally.” But it’s hard to follow that advice because it feels personal.
That’s why I’m sharing Jia Jiang’s TED Talk. He explains how he desensitized himself to the pain of rejection. Through this discovery, he realized the rejection wasn’t always about him…it was about the other person’s doubts, circumstances or thoughts.
In this TED Talk, Jiang shares how he sought out rejection for 100 days -- from asking a stranger to borrow $100 to requesting a "burger refill" at a restaurant. Jiang discovered the power of asking for what you want.
My challenge for you is this: pursue rejection and look for ways to discover new possibilities.
